First Look At Will Smith As ‘The Genie’ In Aladdin

After remaining relatively tight-lipped about the upcoming live action reboot of Aladdin, we finally got our first look at the cast thanks to Entertainment Weekly

Gracing the cover of this week’s issue, Will Smith, Naomi Scott, and Mena Massoud reveal the in-film look for their characters from the Disney classic. The characters themselves look pretty awesome and are very true to the original animated characters. One of the biggest omissions (on the cover at least), is the Genie’s ever familiar blue hue. There’s been no word on whether or not it’ll be added in post production or not, but we’re hoping so.

Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ tells the story of a street rat who finds a rare lamp and frees the genie that had been imprisoned inside. He then finds himself at odds with the nefarious Jafar, as he tries to maintain possession of the lamp, while trying to win the heart of the gorgeous princess Jasmine.

The original animated film debuted in 1992 and starred Robin Williams as the genie, Scott Weinger as Aladdin, and Linda Larkin as Princess Jasmine. Will Smith has some incredibly large shoes to fill, as The Genie remains on of Robin Williams most beloved roles to date. Check out some behind the scenes photos courtesy of EW, and get ready for ‘Aladdin’ as it hits theaters May 24th, 2019.
