Playstation 4 Update 4.0

Sony detailed the latest system firmware update for the Playstation 4 today via the Official Playstation Blog. The update (version 4.0) is codenamed Shingen, and will bring with it a host of updates for PS4 users. Some of which include a new UI refresh, folder organization, and updates to the options and share menus.

For most users, the biggest change coming with this new update will be the UI. Users will notice Sony tweaked the system background and revised the What’s New tab. There’s new pop-up notifications that will give you more relevant information based on what you’re doing, or about the game you’re playing. The Quick Menu has also been overhauled to make it easier and faster to use. Now you can see which friends are online, access communities, and reorganize the menu without having to go back to the home screen.

The Share Menu will also see an overhaul, and will only cover a portion of the screen. It’s now smarter, and has the ability to remember which Social Network you last shared to, and in turn, makes sharing gameplay videos and stills much faster. This is a tremendous advantage for those who broadcast gameplay or stream live, as it eliminates a few extra steps from uploading clips. The video limit for Twitter has also been raised from 10 seconds to 140 seconds.

The last major improvement is how Sony allows users to organize files. Currently, all your games sit comfortably on the main XMB with no real rhyme or reason outside of most recent interaction. Now, you’ll have the ability to organize your games and other media into folders for easier access. Sony is also introducing a ‘Purchased’ tab, which groups everything you own into one easy to find, centralized location; Adding even more organizational prowess to your system.

The Playstation System Software Update will begin to roll out tomorrow, Sept.13th so be sure to keep your eyes open for it!
