Woody Harrelson Rumored To Play CARNAGE In Venom Movie
2 min readIf this latest rumor turns out to be true, the Venom movie just got a whole hell of a lot more interesting. Word has it, that Woody Harrelson has signed on to play Cletus Kasady in the upcoming Venom movie. For those not in the know, Cletus Kasady was a psychotic killer who wound up in possession of a symbiote similar to the one Eddie Brock has that turns him into Venom. Kasady’s symbiote turns him into a massively powerful alien that feeds off his hosts penchant for murder and chaos.
Carnage has long been one of the most interesting villains in the entire Spiderman universe as he has no actual allegiances. In fact, he not only squares off against our favorite web slinger, but also engages Venom regularly as well. The character Cletus Kasady was first introduced in The Amazing Spiderman #344, but didn’t bond with the symbiote and transform into Carnage until issue #361.
Carnage’s origin story is really interesting as it happened during a time Eddie Brock was imprisoned next to Kasady. The alien symbiote that had previously bonded with Eddie Brock found in while in prison and rebonded with him. The union transformed Brock into Venom once again, allowing him to escape prison, while also leaving a bit of itself behind in the process. The leftover symbiote joined with Cletus Kasady, and transformed him into the murderous Carnage.
Woody Harreslon seems to be a perfect fit for this role, considering some of the roles he’s played in the past. In fact, I’d say his role as Mickey Knox in ‘Natural Born Killers’ is more reminiscent of a Cletus Kasady type. Harrelson brings a certain depth, and experience to this role that I couldn’t see anyone else bringing. ‘Venom’ starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, will hit theaters October 5th, 2018.
