EA Sports Is Bringing “College Football” Back

After nearly a decade on the shelf, EA has announced that they will finally be releasing a new college football game. Not in the way you think though, as the franchise will undergo a major cosmetic makeover. For starters, there will be no official NCAA branding within this new title. Instead EA will be working with collegiate licensing company CLC to bring teams, stadiums, and traditions to the game. EA went on to say that over 100 different schools will be represented in the title.

EA Sports Vice President Daryl Holt spoke about the anticipation from fans for the return of a college football title. “As we look for the momentum that we’re building on in sports, it all starts with the passion of our fans and the opportunities of what they are interested in,” Holt said. “I don’t think there’s a visit where I go outside wearing a piece of EA Sports-branded apparel that someone doesn’t go, ‘Hey, when is college football coming back?'”

The last college football game EA made appeared back in 2013. Future titles were put on hold due to legal disputes about EA using players names and likenesses, while Universities debated whether or not college athletes would be eligible for compensation as a result.

So while EA will most certainly bring a college football back to gamers, it will almost certainly have no involvement from the NCAA. Whether or not the new title can be as good, or better than previous titles remains to be seen. If initial reactions to the news count for anything though, EA will have another monster sports franchise on their hands.
