EA Is Reportedly Working On An Open World Black Panther Game

2 min read

Fresh off the world premiere of the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer at Comic-Con, the story of The Black Panther is apparently just getting started. Reports have surfaced alleging that EA is working on an open-world Black Panther video game. If true, this would be the biggest piece of Black Panther IP since the movie franchise debuted.

According to an industry insider, the game would take place after the death of a Black Panther. Players would then step into the role of the new Black Panther, exploring and defending Wakanda from threats both foreign and domestic. Adding a Black Panther game into the mix would add to Marvel’s already loaded slate of games set to debut within the next few years. There’s a follow-up to the smash hit Spider-Man game from Insomniac in the works, along with both Wolverine and Midnight Sons-based games all headed to consoles soon.

If this new Black Panther game can come close to being anywhere near as good as the Spider-Man titles, it would potentially be Marvel’s most popular gaming title ever. The Black Panther franchise has proven to be wildly popular amongst fans, as the movie grossed over $1.3 Billion in theaters, while the latest Wakanda Forever trailer has amassed over 20 million views in a few short days.

Despite the lack of details, the game has already drawn tons of interest among gamers. Most are speculating whether players will step into the role of T’Challa himself, or if there will be a new character developed solely for the game. No matter which option turns out to be the way developers chose to go, this will undoubtedly be another massive project in Marvel’s continuously impressive portfolio.
