Compound Fracture Review

One of our highlights of Detroit Fanfare Comic con was the VIP screening of Compound Fracture. Compound Fracture is a suspense thriller written by Renae Geerlings and stars Tyler Mane and Derek Mears.  The screening took place in a meeting room inside the convention hotel.  It was a pay event that cost $10 which made it a smaller crowd but definitely worth the money in my opinion.  The event started late and had some technical issues which would prove to be a challenge throughout the whole movie. The movie synopsis is as follows:

After receiving an urgent phone call, Michael Wolffsen (Tyler Mane) packs up his family and heads to his estranged, eccentric father’s house. Once they arrive at Gary’s home they realize it is much more like a compound. The house is also covered in supernatural items, occult symbols and wards.  Gary’s new wife, Annabelle can no longer deal with his parnoia and dementia and informs the family that she is leaving Gary. This is when the vengeful spirit of William makes himself known to others and where the killings begin. Gary, through his arcane fumblings has cursed his family in this life and the next and now they must find a way to escape the house, defeat a spirit hell bent on seeking revenge, and break the curse that will keep their spirits in the house forever.

Despite the technical issues that made watching more than 15 minutes of the movie impossible, it was a good time. The movie delivers a very intense thriller.  Every time the movie glitched, I found myself holding my breath waiting for more. Tyler Mane, Renae Geerlings and Derek Mears also took it upon themselves to fill in the time with Q&A about the movie, raffles of autographed items, interesting stories about the making of the movie, and other hilarious tidbits.  They handled the what-could-be-disaster in strides. They made the best of a bad situation and gave us an intimate look into their passion for Compound Fracture and their upcoming film Penance Lane. Because of the technical faux pas, Detroit Fanfare gave us free drink tickets, and even delivered pizza to apologize for the trouble with watching the film.  I was politely offered a slice of pizza by Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th (Who could ask for more?!) it was funny and awesome and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie as well as the interaction with the stars of the film!
