Showtime Is Trying To Usurp HBO’s Customers
1 min readShowtime just unveiled their answer to HBO’s wildly popular HBO Now service. They didn’t get too creative with the name, simply leaving it as Showtime, but one thing they did get creative with was the price. The standalone streaming service will launch exclusively with Apple and will cost a mere $10.99 per month. The app will debut July 12th, on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV boxes first, and will showcase some of Showtime’s bigger shows like Ray Donovan and Masters Of Sex. You’ll also get access to the entire library of Showtime series and movies On Demand, with new content being uploaded constantly. Sports fans will be excited to know that you’ll also get access to the live streams of the west coast and east coast Showtime channels, and live sporting events.
CBS corp’s Leslie Moonves went on to say “Going over-the-top means Showtime will be much more accessible to tens of millions of potential new subscribers.” “Across CBS, we are constantly finding new ways to monetize our programming by capitalizing on opportunities presented by technology. This works best when you have outstanding premium content – like we do at Showtime – and when you have a terrific partner like Apple – which continues to innovate and build upon its loyal customer base.”
Sounds like a match made in heaven to us. Showtime is offering new customers who sign up through Apple a free 30-day trial through July.
