Apple Just Released The Worst Battery Case Ever For iPhone 6 And 6S

2 min read

In a perfect world, we’d have smartphones that’d last us 2-3 days between charges with little to no effort. iPhone users have been voicing general displeasure with their battery life as of late, and even though there’s a ton of alternatives out there, Apple officially unveiled their own proprietary battery case today. Throwing their hat into the battle of battery cases, Apple released a $99 “Smart” battery case to compete with the likes of Mophie and Incipio, promising users up to 25 additional hours of battery life. The problem here is that the case isn’t all that better than, and in some cases it’s even worse than the competitors offerings.

For starters, the case is absolutely atrocious. There’s a giant bulge on the back of the case that would make Steve Jobs vomit if he were still around. It LITERALLY looks like Apple simply molded a case around an external battery. The inside is filled with a soft touch material similar to what’s found in their current smartphone cases. There’s no way to choose when you want the phone to start charging, so once the case is on, it’s juicing your battery whether you like it or not. There’s also the puzzling inclusion of a small LED indicator inside the case to display the charge level, which if it weren’t for the inclusion of the battery display in the notification pane, would be utterly useless. The biggest bright point to this case is that it charges using a lightning cable, so unlike Mophie and Incipio cases, there’s no need to carry an extra micro USB cord around.

If you’re a diehard Apple fan, and you don’t mind burning $99 bucks for a few extra hours of battery life, this is your huckleberry. If you want a case that has a better look, better design, and will give you even more juice between charges, it’d be best to stick with a Mophie, or snag an Incipio case.
