Amazon Suffers Data Breach, Accounts And Passwords Potentially Compromised

1 min read

Just a few days before the biggest shopping day of the year, the biggest shopping destination may have suffered a data breach. While Amazon was very subtle about letting customer know about this breach, it was apparently serious enough for Amazon to actually force reset some customers passwords. According to ZDNet, customers on Amazon.com and Amazon UK were sent an email notifying them of the situation.

The email essentially warns customers that their passwords were either improperly stored on a mobile device or transmitted to Amazon in a way that could allow it to be seen or intercepted by a third-party. This is a huge bummer for shoppers as Black Friday and Cyber Monday is right around the corner, and with the heightened number of transactions on those days, one would have to assume that password theft will increase as well. If you’re an Amazon customer in the US or UK, we’d highly suggest you change your password even if you didn’t receive an email just to be safe. Make sure that you chose a solid password that includes a mixture of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters.
