Look out PS3 owners, here’s a game that appears to be switch from your run of the mill action game…Heavy Rain.  This cinematic thriller plays more like a movie and the decisions you make affect its outcome. The French developer, Quantic Dream has spent great time and care on the title to convey an “adult-themed emotional experience”. Definitely doesn’t sound like one for the kiddos.

Heavy Rain takes you on a suspenseful hunt for a serial killer, known only as the Origami killer because of the “calling card” origami shapes left at each crime scene. In the game, you assume the roles of several characters that follow their own leads and motives to prevent the Origami Killer from killing again.

The developer intends for the animation and cinematics to suck you in and the “emotion driven experience” to keep you there. It’ll be interesting to how well this is conveyed to gamers.

The release dates:

  • Japan-February 8th
  • United States-February 23rd
  • Mainland Europe-February 24th

When North American players pre-order Heavy Rain at participating retailers, they get the first downloadable episode from the The Heavy Rain Chronicles expansion, “Heavy Rain: Chronicle One- The Taxidermist.” If you choose not to pre-order, don’t worry!  You can still purchase each episode, sold individually for $4.99.

What do you think? Does Heavy Rain look like something you’d be interested in playing? Could it change how people view their gaming experiences?  Check out the trailer for Heavy Rain below.
