Well folks…the hoopla is finally over as Apple has just announced their iPad, fully touch mobile tablet. The interface is gorgeous and very intuitive just like all previous Mac models. Of course you’re going to have the built-in Safari web browser and iTunes with iPod compatibility. This bad devil measures in at just half an inch thick and weighs a mere 1.5 pounds. Which is going to make the iPad extremely comfortable to tote around and actually in terms of size will put it right in line with most e-readers that are available.

Now lets talk performance. The iPad will be running on Apple’s own 1.4 GHz A4 chip and packs a microphone, speaker, GPS, an accelerometer and compass. In terms of connectivity it also has a 802.11n wireless adapter built in (duh) for all your surfing needs. There will also be 3G versions of the device released. In a surprise turn of events, Apple announced that the 3G versions will be sold unlocked and in partnership with AT&T.

If apps are your big concern…they gotcha covered. The iPad will be able to run all iPhone apps as well apps created specifically for the device. On top of all this greatness, this thing comes packing a battery capable of supporting up to 10 hours of video playback and up to one month of standby….holy balls!!!

There is a lock screen similar to the iPhone, but when you slide it, all of the icons come flying onto the screen. Navigating the web is a breeze and will seem very familiar for iPhone users. The email display looks nice.

As expected, the iPad will go head to head with eReaders such as the Amazon Kindle. Apple is launching a whole new store called iBooks that feature titles from 5 different publishing partners (so far). The navigation around the store is extremely similar to iTunes and all of your purchased books are displayed on a snazzy looking “bookshelf” interface for you to pick and choose from. The pages are of course, turned by using your finger and animation is very smooth and fluid. Pages can be turned slowly.

It seems that Apple is truly trying to make the iPad a device for every need, as it has even announced a compatible version of their iWork software suite. Now you can feel free to create all the spreadsheets you want while sitting on the porcelain throne. Sweet.

No word on notifications or multitasking capabilities.

All of this starting at $499. Wow. The Wi-Fi versions will be shipping out in 60 days, the 3G versions will be arriving in 90 days.

The iPad looks like another game changer from Apple.
