Meet Nike’s Playstation Inspired ‘PG2’ Sneaker

2 min read

Always one to be on the cutting edge of design and technology in sneakers, Nike has revealed another awesome addition to their collection. In collaboration with the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Paul George, the Nike PG2 combines new Nike design, with a Playstation flair. George is a self-professed gamer, so it only makes sense for him to have a gaming inspired sneaker. In fact, his first signature shoe, the ‘PG1’ had a design inspired by the NBA 2K franchise.

With the PG2, Nike takes several queues from the Playstation IP and translates them directly into the shoe. For example, the tongue features George’s logo on one shoe, with the Playstation ‘PS’ insignia on the other. The logos can be illuminated with a button on the inside of the shoe, which also pulses like a dual shock controller when pressed. Both logos are powered by an internal battery that allows them to light up and glow. The battery isn’t easily changeable though, so that could lead to some issues down the road. The rest of the shoe has a pretty sweet Galaxy-like design to it, which looks really similar to the start-up interface of the Playstation 4. The lace locks also rock the same colors as the action buttons on a Playstation controller.

Honestly I’m not much of a sneaker freak myself, but after seeing them, I’ve decided I need to have these in my life. If you feel like I do, get ready to fight a mass of others to get your hands on a pair. The Playstation PG2s will be a limited release sneaker, so there will only be a small quantity available. They launch February 10th, and will set you back a cool $110 (surprisingly not that bad…). Guess I’ll just hit the Nike site now, and get my refresh finger ready.
