Ron Howard to Han Solo’s Rescue!

1 min read

Since our last article about the standalone Han Solo movie, we were speculating who the new director would be to take over after Phil Lord and Chris Miller were essentially fired over creative differences. Ron Howard has stepped up to the plate and the announcement was posted on StarWars.com today.

“At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago,” Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July.”

Ron Howard has an impressive directing resume which includes Lucasfilm’s Willow, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, and The DaVinci Code to name a few. They have a few more weeks of filming and reshoots to complete the film and Howard will meet with actors soon. It will be interesting to see just how they will handle the director credit for the movie. Will they list three directors? Only time will tell .  In the meantime, I hope the Star Wars universe gets a solid film. The untitled Han Solo movie is set to debut May 2018.
