Sprint To Discontinue iDEN Network

1 min read

By Rob Boggan

Today Sprint announced intentions to migrate all business and government customers from it’s iDEN network, to it’s Sprint Direct Connect network beginning in June. Sprint also announced plans to completely discontinue it’s entire iDEN National Nextel Network, as early as June30th, in an effort to offer all customers it’s next gen network capabilities. It seemed as if ever since the network merger between Nextel and Sprint back in 2006, the already aging iDEN network was doomed. After today’s announcement, we have to wonder what kind of fallout Sprint will experience as a result of them killing off iDEN. Nextel is and always have been a touchy subject for Sprint customers and could ultimately lead to even more customer flight from the number three carrier. Check out the full press release below, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
