The upcoming ‘Child’s Play’ reboot has been met with both excitement and scrutiny. Fans of the original are skeptical about the story, lamenting the change from ‘evil possessed doll,’ to AI gone wrong. After all, we’ve had several movies recently spotlight the potential dangers of advanced AI, so how much different could this one really be? Well, thanks to the recent casting of a famed Star Wars actor as ‘Chucky,’ things could actually wind up very interesting.

Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill announced yesterday through his social media accounts that he’d been cast as Chucky. Whether you’re a fan or a detractor of the Child’s Play reboot, one thing is for certain: Mark Hamill as Chucky is pretty badass. After all, Hamill already has one of the most legendary voice credits to his name. He voiced ‘The Joker’ in Batman: The Animated Series, so Chucky wouldn’t be too far of a stretch for him.

The original Child’s Play debuted in 1988, and featured a nefarious doll named Chucky. The doll had a serial killer’s soul transferred into it one night after a botched robbery, and a recently widowed mother unknowingly bought the doll for her kid. The reboot will feature a similar story, with a modern day twist.

‘Child’s Play’ will hit theaters June 21, 2019 and will star Mark Hamill, Aubrey Plaza, and Brian Tyree Henry. Check out the first teaser trailer below!
