Swedish Happy Meals Transform Into VR Goggles

2 min read

When I was young, I always had the grandest ideas for my Happy Meal toys. I would always imagine opening the box, smashing some nuggets and then tearing into the most random, oddball action figure. All that mattered to me though, was the excitement I experienced when I got to use my imagination to take my Mickey D’s toy on a whirlwind adventure. No wires, no gadgets, just me, some cheap plastic, and my imagination. Entertainment for hours.

Today’s children I fear, will never know that joy. Gadgets, smartphones, and tablets are taking the place of those times where kids should and could be playing, and the latest coming out of Sweden will seemingly exacerbate that issue. McDonald’s in Sweden has begun trialing Happy Meal boxes that convert into VR Goggles, complete with a smartphone holder built-in, for the full VR experience. They’ve been dubbed Happy Goggles and will begin to roll out around March 5th. There’s also a game set to roll out with the goggles called “Se Upp I Backen” which translates in English to “Watch out on the slopes.”

The game, aims to teach children to…..well, watch out on the slopes, and has even been endorsed by the Swedish Alpine ski team.

Happy Goggles will only be available in Sweden in the near future, but McDonald’s is hoping to be able to release them globally soon.

Check out the sizzle video below, and let us know what you think about the impending invasion of Happy Goggles.
