The Han Solo Movie Just Lost Both Its Directors

Han Solo Directors

Something catastrophic just happened to the Han Solo movie. In what has to be one of the worst case scenarios for a big project as this, both directors left the film citing creative differences. Both Phil Lord and Tim Miller, are being replaced as directors in the film about young Han Solo. We could make a “We’ve got a bad feeling about this” joke, but we’ll refrain.

With Lord and Miller’s departure, the young Han Solo film is in a very precarious position. There has been rumors swirling about several rewrites and reshoots planned, things will seemingly get more difficult. The president of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy had nothing but praise for the directorial duo, but made it perfectly clear they were indeed hiring a new director. She went on to say, “Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways.”

A new director is expected to be named “soon” but for now, the film is off to a somewhat rocky start. Lord and Miller previously directed critically praised films 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie, and were attached to the project since 2015. Lucasfilm has said that they planned on sticking to the original May 2018 release date for the Han Solo project.

The young Han Solo movie is set to tell the story of the most famous smuggler in the Star Wars Universe. While no full details have been divulged, one has to imagine some of the biggest questions surrounding Han will be addressed in the film. Alden Ehrenreich will star as Han Solo and Donald Glover will play a young Lando Calrissian. The film also stars Emilia Clark, and Woody Harrelson in unnamed roles.
