‘Venom’ Official Trailer Finally Shows Off Venom

2 min read

The first official trailer for Sony’s upcoming Venom flick finally shows off Venom for the first time. Fans have been waiting with bated breath to see what the alien anti-hero would look like, and it doesn’t disappoint. After all, the last time venom was on the big screen we were all pretty sour on how it turned out. This time, it looks like the producers of the film actually have a good grasp on the character, and will be giving us the Venom we all deserve.

In the trailer, reporter Eddie Brock (played by Tom Hardy), talking to his girlfriend about her employer, Carlton Drake. She requests he “behave himself” during an interview, but we all know how that’ll turn out. As expected Brock’s line of questioning gets a little too pushy, and that leads to Drake ending the interview prematurely. Brock then runs into an employee of Drake’s “Life Foundation” company who tips him off to experiments being run on humans at the Foundation. During a second investigation, an alien Symbiote attached itself to Brock, thus Venom is born. This is wildly different from how it happens in the comics, but still a very viable origin story for the film.

The alien Symbiotes first appeared in Marvel comics during the ‘Secret Wars’ Arc in the 80’s. Peter Parker was the first to encounter it, believing it to be a new special suit for himself, only to discover it was actually a parasitic life form. The suit was then blasted off of Peter Parker’s body thanks to a sonic gun developed by Reed Richards, but the alien would find a way to reattach itself to Parker. Desperate to relieve himself of the alien Parker retreats to a nearby church and rings the bell as loudly as he can, causing the symbiote to once again separate from his body. The symbiote then finds a suicidal Eddie Brock and bonds with him instead.

Despite the obvious differences in the origin of Venom between comic and movie, it’s still exciting to see this project come to fruition. ‘Venom’ hits theaters October 5th!
