Walking Dead Game Hits PSN

Starting yesterday, PSN owners were gifted with episode one of the highly anticipated game based on TV’s biggest show, The Walking Dead. Based entirely on the world seen in Robert Kirkman’s comic, game designers Telltale Studios decided to tell an entirely new story instead of rehash what we already know. So, we are thrust once again into the post zombie outbreak, this time in the shoes of escaped convict Lee Everett. Lee essentially exists in the same space and time frames as original protagonist Rick Grimes, but both obviously never crossed paths – at least not yet. Telltale wants to focus on telling the back story behind some of the comics most central locations, and further develop the back story of some familiar faces to the franchise as well.

Don’t expect this to be a run and gun zombie affair however, as Telltale points put that’s not their style. They would rather completely immerse gamers into the storyline and using a search and explore gaming system, they pull it off pretty well. There is also a pretty solid amount of action sequences, which allow for the games most intense moments to unfold based on how fast your fingers are. On top of that any choice that you make during the game will often affect events that play out in future episodes. Yes, that’s right episodes. The game is split into five different episodes, all premiering new in the Playstation Store monthly. Gamers have the option to pre-purchase a “season pass” which allows for a $5 savings versus paying for them individually, and includes a premium Walking Dead theme.

In the meanwhile, here’s a screenshot of the theme included with the season pass, courtesy of Telltale games.
