Was Darth Vader Hidden In Plain Sight In Star Wars: The Force Awakens?
3 min readWarning: Major Spoilers Below. If you haven’t seen The Force Awakens, STOP. Go watch the movie, then come back.
I just recently went and watched the new Star Wars movie and was completely blown away. The storyline was really good, and the film contained more than a few tiebacks to the original George Lucas trilogy. In fact, this film seemed to rely heavily on passing the torch, almost to a fault. The next generation of Star Wars lore was fully on display as we met essentially the next Luke, Han, and Leia in Finn, Rey, and Po. We also happened upon the next big baddie in the franchise in Kylo Ren, and this is where things start to get interesting.
Kylo Ren has an insane fascination with finding Luke Skywalker, like high level nutso fascination. He was apparently once an understudy of Luke’s before he was seduced by the dark side, and eventually joined the new Empire, which is now called The First Order. Ren has made it his life’s goal to find and eliminate Luke Skywalker, but why exactly? Isn’t global domination enough? No. Not exactly. You see, Kylo Ren is being manipulated by another supreme force in the galaxy, someone even more powerful, more sinister than himself. This person was introduced to us as Supreme Leader Snoke.
Supreme Leader Snoke is also just as hell-bent on destroying the Rebellion as Kylo Ren is, with an enhanced focus on making sure there are NO MORE JEDI. Supreme Leader Snoke wants to train Kylo Ren directly, as he feels he could one day be strong enough to complete that task. Remember the last guy with such resolve, and such intent to destroy the Jedi? While we only see brief hologram interactions between Kylo and Snoke, we do get a pretty decent glimpse at his face, and this is where the most insane fan theory ever gets some pretty solid legs. Apparently Supreme Leader Snoke shares almost the same identical facial scars as one, Darth Vader. It totally makes sense now!
Who else but Darth Vader could have the potential and wherewithal to train someone to complete the task he couldn’t? Who else but Vader could completely usurp complete control of the Empire from Palpatine and mold it into his own image? I know what you’re thinking, “but Rob, Darth Vader died in the original trilogy.” To that I’d say you’re correct, but the fan who came up with this theory also explains how it could be possible. Remember Emperor Plagueis from the prequels? Plagueis was the Master of Palpatine who was seemingly able to use the force to unlock the secrets of immortality, thus being able to keep himself of those he cared about alive forever, with the help of the Midi-Chlorians. Palpatine eventually murdered Plagueis and took Vader as his apprentice under the Rule of Two (meaning only two Sith, Master and Apprentice, could exist at one time). Darth Vader would also seemingly abide by this belief as he also murdered his master after what began as a duel with his son, Luke.
Now, 30 years after the events of The Return Of The Jedi, Vader could have made his return, only under a new moniker, Supreme Leader Snoke. What do you think about this Fan Theory? Agree? Disagree? Let us know in the comments below!
