Wet Hot American Summer

Fans of the cult classic ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ have another reason to celebrate. After a brief revival on Netflix, it appears the film will now see new life as a tabletop RPG. Game publishers The Devastator will be working with ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ co-writer David Wein to adapt the franchise into a game. The film starred Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, and Michael Ian Black, and was initially a failure, but flew to new heights after its DVD release. From there, the movie was converted into a Netflix movie starring the entirety of the original cast.

Wet Hot American Summer: Fantasy Camp, will allow fans to play as a camper, counselor, or staffer, who’ll get to experience one day at Camp Firewood. You can choose from an already established character like Coop, Beth, or Greene, or create your own player. Fantasy Camp isn’t like your typical tabletop games, and is actually designed so that players can easily hop into games without much experience.

If Fantasy Camp gets funded through Kickstarter, it will be available to backers in November 2017. Talent from the cast of Wet Hot American Summer are already backing the RPG and David Wein has written a forward to accompany it. There will also be “game tip” interviews with Michael Ian Black, Joe Lo Truglio, and Marguerite Moreau. Backers can get the book as a digital download, or autographed by the game’s creators. If you want to jump up a few levels in the backer tier, you can get your own personal bottle of dick cream stick team, or you can even play the game early with the creators.

If you’re a fan of the original film, there’s no reason for you not to get in on this. Even if you just like fun, simple tabletop games, Fantasy Camp is the game for you.
