Zack Snyder Is Bringing A Zombie Heist Film To Netflix

According to an article by The Hollywood Reporter, famed director Zack Snyder is about to make a big return to film. His latest project will be a Netflix exclusive zombie heist film titled ‘Army Of The Dead.’ Snyder was last attached to the 2017 DC hit ‘Justice League’ before taking some time off to deal with a family tragedy. Army Of The Dead will be released under Snyder’s new imprint Stone Quarry films, and will be co-produced by his wife, Deborah Snyder.

‘Army Of The Dead’ is an action film that takes place during a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas. The story features a team of mercenaries sent on a heist mission in the middle of a quarantine zone. The film initially began development in 2007, but was eventually shelved. Netflix picked up the rights from Warner Bros. and is sparing no expense to make it happen. The film will begin shooting in the Summer, and will retain a mammoth budget of $90 Million.

‘Army Of The Dead’ marks a full circle return to film making for Zack Snyder. His first big break came on the heels of the massive success of his ‘Dawn Of The Dead’ remake for Universal back in 2004. Since then, Snyder has been attached to several high profile franchises like Warner Bros. ‘ ‘Watchmen’, ‘300’, and most recently, DC’s ‘Justice League’ movie. It was during the filming of ‘Justice League’ that Snyder stepped away from filming, after his daughter committed suicide.

Fast forward to present day, and Snyder is completely re-energized to make his triumphant return to film. He told THR, “There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one.” For the first time in his career, it appears this film will live or die based on Snyder’s own vision. Speaking more on the project, Snyder went on, saying “I love to honor canon and the works of art,” he says of his adaptations, “but this is the opportunity to find a purely joyful way to express myself though a genre. It will be the most kick-ass, self-aware — but not in a wink-to-the-camera way — balls-to-the-wall zombie freakshow that anyone has ever seen. No one’s ever let me completely loose [like this].”

Only time will tell if Snyder’s zombie flick will be as awesome as it sounds. If it’s anything like his ‘Dawn Of The Dead’ remake, it’ll definitely reinvigorate the zombie genre, and attract even more eyes to Netflix’s ever growing portfolio.
