Facebook Is About To Undergo A Facelift
2 min readEverything you know about Facebook is about to change. According to an internal source, The Verge reports massive social media company Facebook is about to undergo a facelift.
The company intends on rebranding in an effort to showcase the company’s ambition beyond social media. Facebook will most likely move to re-establish itself as a company with several sub-companies under its umbrella. The move would allow Mark Zuckerberg to focus on other projects as Facebook gets new leadership.
This wouldn’t be the first time that a media company has rebranded in an effort to pursue other projects. Google was shifted from the main company to being part of a multi-company conglomerate called Alphabet Inc. Snapchat reorganized to Snap Inc, and started selling glasses with a camera integrated into them shortly after. Facebook makes the most sense to be next with a complete overhaul.
Facebook currently enjoys a particularly diverse group of apps and companies that could actually benefit from restructuring. Facebook has come under scrutiny several times over the past few years thanks in part to its handling of user data, and sketchy practices around their definition and censoring of hate speech and groups. There’s also the matter of sub-companies WhatsApp, Instagram, and Oculus, and how they would be impacted in the event of a rebranding.
While no one outside of Facebook’s inner-most circle knows what this new name will be, one thing is certain… Whenever it is announced, it will send shockwaves across the internet. It will also be interesting to see if Facebook itself undergoes any major changes once the new company is announced. Mark Zuckerberg is expected to announce the official plans for the rebrand during Facebook’s annual Connect conference on October 28th.
