Get Ready to Nerd Out: Motor City Comic Con Makes Its Epic Return This Weekend!

My beloved Motor City Comic Con is back and bigger than ever, taking over the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, MI this weekend, May 17th through 19th. As Michigan’s premier pop culture extravaganza, it offers an unparalleled assembly of comics, collectibles, and all things nerdy. Every year, the event promises a thrilling lineup and this time is no exception. Here’s a look at the top attractions and experiences that we can’t wait to dive into at the show.

Robust Guest List From All Types Of Genres And Fandoms

One of my favorite things about Motor City Comic Con is the extensively diverse guest list assembled during each show. Each year, guests will typically include some Motor City mainstays alongside several new faces to give attendees the feeling of familiarity while also keeping things fresh and exciting. This year’s guest list is no different and includes some of the biggest names from multiple genres, past and present. Tom Kenny (Spongebob Squarepants), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), William Shatner (Star Trek), and Carla Gugino (The Fall Of The House Of Usher) are but a few of the names expected to be in attendance during the show. It’ll be fascinating to see the guests in action at their booths and during the slate of panels Motor City Comic Con usually produces.

Unique Experiences And Stories During Panels

As much as I love being able to mingle with the celebrities in attendance during the show, there’s nothing better than being present during one of the many panels held during the weekend of the show. Panels have slowly emerged as my MVP of Motor City Comic Cons, giving you the ability to interact with your favorite actors and actresses, while also getting one-of-a-kind stories and analogies from behind the scenes of their best projects. Last year, I also enjoyed attending several sketch duels that pit multiple artists against each other in a friendly competition led by suggestions from other panelists and the audience. It’s like an artistic improv show, allowing artists to tap into the chaos of their inner minds while showcasing their incredible ability to create. It’s one of those things I HIGHLY recommend everyone experience at least once.

A Congregation Of Nerds

Let’s talk about what really sets these shows off. The cherry on top of the Comic Con sundae – the thing that brings it all together. The fans. Regardless of how good the guest list is, or how many awesome panels take place, none of it matters without the fans. Listening to the hype around comics at an exhibitor table, or seeing the excitement on a little kid’s face as they walk past a “real life” Darth Vader. Motor City Comic Con fans are as passionate as any fanbase, and each year they bring that energy to the show, making it just as good as the last. This year has the potential to be the biggest yet, with some of the biggest names in the industry in attendance.
