The New Mortal Kombat Trailer Is As Awesome As It Is Gruesome
1 min readWarner Bros. just dropped the first official trailer for their upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot and it is as awesome as it is gruesome. The trailer starts with Sonya Blade talking to a new character named Cole about a mission gone awry thanks to a person with superhuman abilities. She then tells Cole about a tournament that’s held to determine a grand champion, and the birthmark that he was born with serves as an invitation.
As one that lived through the first two Mortal Kombat movies, the story doesn’t immediately jump out at me, but I’ll still give it a chance. The trailer does actually look really good, and there seems to be an actual focus around martial arts AND storytelling this time around. Hell, there’s even a nod to fatalities in the closing moments of the trailer.
There’s even a cool ass acknowledgment of Sub-Zero and Scorpion’s clan rivalry that will also play into the plot of the film. If you watch closely, you can see several other Mortal Kombat favorites like Goro, Mileena, Kano, and MAYBE Noob Saibot make brief appearances.
Mortal Kombat will debut in theaters and stream exclusively on HBO Max on April 16th. Check out the restricted RED BAND trailer below.
