Disney And Sony Kiss And Make Up, Spider-Man Returning To MCU
1 min readWhew… That was a close one. After watching a very public spat involving parenting licensing rights over Spider-Man, it appears Disney and Sony have struck a deal. Initial reports pegged Sony as the villain, asking for ridiculous sums of money from Disney and Marvel in order to keep Spider-Man in the MCU. After all, Spidey is a Sony property and they can do with him as they please. Now, it appears Disney and Sony have kissed and made up, allowing Spider-Man to continue appearing in the MCU.
Watching this all unfold felt like being in the room while your parents were arguing. All the while, poor Spidey was caught in the middle. Watching from the staircase above, not knowing what to think.
Marvel Studios Co-President Kevin Feige chimed in saying, “I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it.” In exchange for Feige’s production on the next Spider-Man film, Marvel and Disney will receive 25% of the profits. Variety is reporting that Tom Holland will reprise his role as Spider-Man in a third Homecoming film. That movie is slated to drop July 16th, 2021.
