Fortnite Getting ‘Stranger Things’ Crossover Portals
2 min readIf there’s one thing Fortnite does consistently well, it’s gotta be crossovers. They have successfully integrated characters and items from Avengers: Infinity War, John Wick, and Avengers: Endgame, to help boost player engagement. It looks like their next crossover will come to us by way of the “upside down” as Stranger Things portals have started to appear in-game.
Shortly before the debut of the highly anticipated third season of Netflix’s hit show ‘Stranger Things’ Fortnite is incorporating a popular item from the show’s universe. While playing Fortnite, players have begun noticing portal popping up in the game. These portals look awfully similar to the same ones that transport Eleven and the kids from the regular world, into the “Upside Down.”

Fortnite has obviously become a hot property for media franchises to cross-promote on. While their popularity has started to fade a bit, some of the biggest names in media continue to collaborate with Fortnite. There’s probably no better way to market right now, and it makes total sense for Netflix and Epic Games to partner up for exclusive in-game items and experiences. Ironically enough, the portals are apparently popping up in the Mega Mall location in Fortnite. In Stranger Things lore, there’s a new mall slated to debut on the series that will play a pivotal role in the plot of season 3.
Season three of Stranger Things debuts July 4th on Netflix. You can check out the portals and other in-game content on Fortnite right now.
