Fortnite’s New Season Won’t Be Available For iOS Gamers
2 min readEpic Games has struck another blow in their ongoing dispute with Apple. Using the official Fortnite Twitter account, Epic Games disclosed Fortnite’s new season won’t be available for iOS gamers. This is a huge blow to those Fortnite players on iPhone or iPad. With no compromise in sight, Epic will be subjecting their players to the very thing they claimed to be trying to protect them from.
Apple has blocked your ability to update Fortnite on the App Store, and has said they will terminate our ability to develop Fortnite for Apple devices. As a result, Chapter 2 – Season 4 (v14.00) will not release on Apple devices on August 27.

This is all a result of Epic moving away from Apple’s App Store payment method, and into a direct pay system of their own. Epic claims that the move will allow gamers the freedom of choice, all while saving them money because they’d no longer be subjected to Apple’s 30% commission. An honorable move no doubt, but the biggest issue here is that Epic Games is in direct breach of their developer agreement they signed with Apple. As such, Apple has threatened to revoke Epic’s developer license if they don’t go back to “business as usual.”
For their part, Epic is also pushing a hashtag #FreeFortnite in an effort to sway public opinion. They’re also alleging that due to players not being able to update their Fortnite apps, they’ll also lose crossplay capability as well.
One thing is for certain, neither side has admitted any wrongdoing on their part. In cases this high-profile, things tend to get a lot messier before they get better.
