NXT Is A Treasure Trove For Characters

The single coolest thing about NXT, is the freedom the talent is given to develop characters. Some of the most popular acts on WWE’s main roster are all recent call ups from NXT. Enzo and Cass, Finn Balor, Bobby Roode, Charlotte, Bayley, and Sasha Banks all fine tuned their main roster characters while still in NXT. With NXT being a smaller scale version of the main roster, talent has more time to zone in on things that do and don’t work within their gimmicks. Without the immediate pressure to strike gold, talent that may otherwise flounder, are given a true chance to shine. It’s because of this NXT gets consistently great reviews. Some of the talent aren’t the very best in the ring, but they have such an incredible lock on their gimmicks, that the deficiencies in their ring work can often be overlooked by how well they play the character. When this happens, you get something cool, and everyone likes to be a part of something cool. From time to time though, you’ll get someone who is excellent between the ropes and has an awesome gimmick, which makes for an even more special talent. Being able to take more risks on your character is only part of the equation though. Once the lights go up, you have to be able to perform, and lately NXT has been the home of some of the best wrestling available.
