God Of War For PS4 Gets An Official Release Date
2 min readGod of War for the PS4 is coming. Thankfully it’ll be here sooner than later, as Playstation revealed the official release date today. The highly anticipated game will finally be released on April 20th, after a nearly five-year wait. Gamers have been clamoring for a new God of War game since the epic conclusion of God of War III. In GOWIII we got to see Kratos essentially go all Hitman on every God on Mount Olympus, ending their reign by the end of the game. Now, Kratos is obviously older, and more grizzled and even has a side kick. Flanked by his son, Atreus, Kratos is mentoring the young boy. Teaching him to be a fierce warrior, while mastering his internal rage as well.
One of the coolest elements to God Of War has always been the combat mechanics and the lighting fast gameplay. That has been vastly reinvented, with this new title God of War will play less like a hack and slash and more like an RPG. Kratos will now have skill knowledge points, a “Spartan Rage” timed attack, and crafting resources for players to enhance their weapons. Another element new to Kratos, will be his signature weapon. Kratos now wields a giant battle-axe called the Leviathan Axe after losing the Blades of Chaos at the end of God Of War III. Players will also primarily control Kratos, but will occasionally switch to control Atreus during battles and mini-events, like boss battles and puzzle solving.
After destroying the Olympian Gods, Kratos and Atreus will now find themselves taking on beings from Norse mythology. Kratos won’t encounter Vikings though, as his journey will predate them altogether. Instead, he and Atreus will find themselves in the same timeline as some of the most intimidating Norse Gods. They will also trek across the nine realms of Norse mythology, making for some potentially awesome locations within the new game.
There’s several pre-order bonuses as well, which range from exclusive shield skins, to specialized character perks. I got my copy pre-ordered, and if you want to get in on the action, head into your local game retailer to snag a copy.
