Motor City Comic Con Keeps Fans Buzzing Year After Year!

3 min read

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending my 7th consecutive Motor City Comic Con and as usual, it was a wonderfully good time. Throughout the weekend, MC3 packs almost everything you’d want from a comic con into its show. I spent three days inside the Suburban Collection Showplace taking in all the sights and sounds of MC3, and one thing remains clear — Motor City Comic Con continues to be Michigan’s premiere Comic Con.

The show typically starts on Friday, and that’s usually the best day to get in, get your bearings, and scope out the layout of the show floor. This is ALWAYS important because Saturdays and Sundays are typically heavier foot traffic days, which can make it a bit more difficult to navigate. This can be especially troubling if you plan on picking up some coveted comics, or a collectible.

Speaking of which, I always love seeing some of my favorite vendors at MC3 (looking at you First Form Collectibles and Nebula Amusements). I love supporting my local and regional vendors, and this con makes it easier to support many of them at once.

The media guest list sometimes can often be hit or miss at MC3, and thankfully the fall event was definitely more hit than miss. Headlined by the man of your dreams (or nightmares) Robert Englund, the Fall edition of MC3 had a great mix of current and nostalgic acts for attendees to interact with. Fans not only get to interact with guests through meet and greets at their booths but also through paid photo ops. My favorite way to engage is through interviews at their booth (Press only, sorry kiddos) or through panels.

I’ve attended Comic Cons all over the nation, and one thing I’ll always argue is that MC3 has some of the absolute best panels. This show was more special than ever for me, as I got to attend a panel featuring all four voice actors from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon from the 80s. Those who know me, know that as a kid, and especially as an adult I LOVE THE TURTLES. It was awesome to be able to sit back and hear stories from the OG series, and from the actors who lived it. It was like being transported back in time, if only for an hour, and being able to relieve some of my favorite memories.

The cosplay contest caps off the weekend and brings out the best cosplayers in attendance. I missed the spring cosplay contest because I caught a bad case of “con crud,” so there was no way I’d miss this one. Overall, the contest felt WAY shorter than usual and came across as a bit rushed. There were no prizes for groups and most of the entrants were different variations of the same character. Variety is the spice of life and I’d love to see more of it in future shows. Honestly, the cosplay contest was the only low-light of the entire weekend.

Motor City Comic Con continues to be one of the very best events to attend, and thankfully we get to experience it twice a year.

MC3 will return to the Suburban Collection Showplace on May 16th – 18th 2025!
