Leonardo Dicaprio Rumored To Play The Joker In New Origins Movie
2 min readWhen news broke a few weeks back that acclaimed director Martin Scorsese would be producing a stand-alone Joker film, the internet lost our collective minds. Scorsese has the vision to bring us the dark, gritty Joker movie that DC and we, the fans truly deserve. Not the shiny Lambo driving, hyper exaggerated Jared Leto Joker, oh no. We’re talking the criminally insane, yet masterfully chaotic Joker we saw when Heath Ledger portrayed in ‘The Dark Knight.’ We think it’s high time the Joker got his own origin film.
So the question now is, “Who would step in to play the role of The Joker?” Well, if the rumors are to be believed, we could be getting one hell of an actor to fill those shoes. Lately, when you think of a Scorsese project, one actor comes to mind. That actor has worked with Martin Scorsese in the past, and has absolutely killed it every time. In case you didn’t read the headline, or have ignored quality movies for the past 10 years, you’d know that actor is none other than Leonardo Dicaprio. Scorsese and Dicaprio have brought us some of the most awesome movies to date, and to see them team up again for a Joker adaptation would be amazing.
While Jared Leto is technically holding down the role of The Joker in Warner Bros. ‘Suicide Squad’ movies, the standalone film will look to recast the part. The most important thing to remember about all of this, is that these are, for the time being, only rumors. There hasn’t been an official offer made to Dicaprio just yet, and as far as we know, there were already plans for a Joker spinoff film Starring Leto, and Margo Robbie as Harley Quinn. If Leo does end up landing the gig as The Joker, that would make for the sixth time that he and Scorsese will have worked together. They have previously teamed up on The Aviator, Gangs Of New York, Shutter Island, The Departed, and The Wolf Of Wall Street.
