T-Mobile USA Turns 10; Celebrates With “New” Unlimited Plans

Today, T-Mobile celebrates a milestone in the wireless industry, celebrating 10 years of wireless service and innovation. To celebrate this milestone properly, T-Mobile has announced plans to return to a “truly” unlimited experience on it’s nationwide 4G network. The nation’s number four carrier has accomplished quite a bit in it’s time in the spotlight including the first consumer marketed device to give users a true IM and push email experience in the Sidekick, to the first Android phone in the T-Mobile G1. T-Mobile was hailed as a great value service provider but began to catch flack for a decision to start “capping” data usage by throttling users after exceeding 2GB of data.

Today’s announcement marks a return to form of sorts for T-Mobile as they were the only providers (other than Sprint) to continue to provide unlimited data for subscribers. This move gives T-Mobile a slight competitive advantage as their 4G HSPA+ network is consistently faster than AT&T’s, and given that AT&T essentially paid for T-Mobile to migrate to LTE, this could be the one thing that T-Mobile needs to reclaim the hearts of the nation. Now if only they can score that elusive iPhone deal they’d be good to go.
