The First ‘IT’ Trailer Is Here, and It’s Terrifying

2 min read

One of my longest standing fears in life has been that of clowns. For as long as I can remember, I have been irrationally afraid of them. I can remember when the original ‘IT’ came out, and I was just as afraid then as I am now. I was brave enough to check out the latest trailer for the remake of IT, and it looks absolutely terrifying.

Pennywise the Clown can be directly linked to thousands of cases of coulrophobia, or the fear of clowns. He was the original childhood nightmare, and his return to the big screen will reignite those fears in 80’s babies across the world. ‘IT’ was originally a novel by Stephen King that was adopted into a film in the early 90’s. Tim Roth took the helm as the child killing clown back then, but now Bill Skårsgard will don the makeup. In the remake, much of the story remains the same. Following a slew of disappearances in the small town of Durry, a group of friends encounter the demon possessed clown. They all have an encounter with Pennywise, each time as the thing they all fear most.

That’s what makes Pennywise and the story behind ‘IT’ so truly grim. It can be whatever scares you most. In the trailer, we see the sum of all these fears played up to the fullest. Seeing the classic red balloon floating around in the classroom ran chills down my spine all over again. I thought Tim Roth’s version of Pennywise was scary, but Skårsgard’s take looks equally frightening. It’s really cool seeing a new take on ‘The Loser’s Club’ and I can’t wait to see some of those classic Pennywise one-liners recreated. Check out the official trailer below, and prepare to face your (and mine) biggest fear again this September.
