1 min read

The Star Wars universe is vast and rapidly growing.  So why not a better time than now to sell off a complete R2-D2 unit which was assembled from components from the original “Star Wars” trilogy with a little mixed in from  “Star Wars:Episode I- The Phantom Menace” and “Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones”. The Los Angeles-area auction house Profiles in History were responsible for auctioning off Luke Skywalker’s companion. The auction house stated that there were no internal mechanics so no Death Star plans or  bleeps will not be heard.  This patchwork R2-D2 unit sold for 2.75 million dollars. Among other items auctioned off were Mark Hamill’s lightsaber from “Star Wars:Episode IV:A New Hope” was sold for a mere $325,000 and Darth Vader’s helmet from the original movie which brought in $96,000. Information on the purchaser was not available but special shipping arrangements had to be made for R2-D2 to go to his new home because he is currently in the United Kingdom.
