Robert Kirkman Leaves AMC, Will Develop New Shows For Amazon

The Walking Dead creator, Robert Kirkman will soon depart AMC in favor of a bigger deal with Amazon. Kirkman and his Skybound imprint will now create new content with Amazon for the next two years. Amazon will also have a ‘first look’ clause which basically means new Skybound series created by Kirkman will have to be shopped to them first. The move is a bit of a blow to AMC, which currently houses one of Kirkman’s biggest projects to date, The Walking Dead. 

The deal is said to be significantly better than Kirkman’s previous deal with AMC. Kirkman had this to say about his new deal, “At Skybound Entertainment we strive to tell the best stories in the most unique and creative ways in an effort to always break new ground.” “A forward-thinking company like Amazon is the perfect home for us. Their new foray into genre fiction has us at peak optimism for what can be accomplished during this unprecedented partnership. Sharon Tal Yguado has been an instrumental force in the success of Walking Dead and Outcast from Day one. Being able to not only continue that relationship, but also expand it into new territory with the vast resources of Amazon, means great things are ahead for myself, David Alpert, Skybound and fans of awesome entertainment. Look out world, here we come!”

Fans of The Walking Dead don’t need to worry though, as that series, along with the Fear The Walking Dead spinoff will stay put on AMC. Kirkman also has another comic book adaptation for his series Outcast, currently airing on Cinemax that won’t be part of the deal. In addition to his multiple TV properties, Kirkman also has a picture deal with Universal that produced his first feature film Air, which starred Walking Dead standout Norman Reedus. Universal is said to be developing a film based off Invincible, another Kirkman comic book franchise.
