‘Among Us’ Developers Have Cancelled Their Planned Sequel
2 min readGame designer Innersloth Studios have announced plans to cancel the sequel to the smash-hit game, “Among Us.” The cancellation is a direct result of the original games’ overwhelming popularity as of late. It’s so popular, that if you or your kids watch any gaming Youtuber there’s a very good chance that they’ve done a video on Among Us recently.
Plans for a successor to Among Us were shelved after weeks of growth in Among Us 1 downloads. The game is currently the third most popular title on Twitch and has amassed over 10 million downloads on Steam. Innersloth Studios delayed the release of Among Us 2, and will now move all the planned updates for the sequel into Among Us 1.
Not all of the planned updates will hit Among Us 1 though, as the developers have acknowledged the game may have its limitations. Innersloth said on their blog “The main reason we were shooting for a sequel is because the codebase of Among Us 1 is so outdated and is not built to support adding so much new content.” They went on to add, “Seeing how many people are playing and enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level.”
So what’s on the horizon? Well for starters the team over at Innersloth is planning server upgrades to accommodate the new influx of players. They’re also working on a new map, as well as colorblind support and an account system for repeat players and stat tracking.
Expect to see these updates and more begin to roll out over the course of the next few weeks. Among Us is available to download on Steam ($4.99), as well as Android and iOS.
