DirecTV Now Hits The 1 Million Subscriber Mark
1 min readAT&T’s over the top streaming service, DirecTV Now, has reached 1 million subscribers. The company announced their huge milestone today, marking what has been an incredible year of subscriber growth for them. If this pattern continues, they will catch up tp current streaming king Sling TV, who currently have 1.7 million subscribers.
This rapid growth is of course spurred on by several AT&T advantages that give their service a bit of a competitive edge. If you have their Unlimited wireless plan, you recoup a $15 monthly discount off DirecTV Now. That pricing model puts them in the same wheelhouse as Sling TV, which is $20 a month for their starter plans. Where things start to get a little muddied, is the fact that if you’re an AT&T subscriber, you also use zero of your plan data when watching DirecTV Now on your AT&T devices.
While some may view this as an incredible deal, this certainly tows the grayest of gray areas when it comes to net neutrality. Regardless of how you feel about it, the simple fact that AT&T has been able to snatch 1 million people away from their traditional cable offerings is impressive.
