Just moments ago, Google finally took the wraps off it’s highly anticipated sequel to last year’s Nexus 7. The new Nexus 7 maintains the same slimline form factor that made the original popular, while adding much needed boosts to RAM and internal storage. Google shaved a bit of thickness off the device, making it about 2mm thinner, which is a big feat in itself as they also doubled the storage to 16GB. The screen also received a generous upgrade, moving from 1280 x 800 display to a 1920 x 1200. Better pixel density equals much better display, especially when it comes to HD content. On top of all that, Google topped of the Nexus 7 with a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 pro processor, which means this one will absolutely perform better for gamers.
Other upgrades include BOTH a front camera (2MP), and a rear facing 5-megapixel camera. There will also be a single frequency LTE model available, and Google promises it will work for all American carriers. This will also mark the debut of Android 4.3 on an Android device. This also marks the first time a Nexus device will be widely available at retailers as Best Buy, Gamestop, Walmart, Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, Amazon, HSN, Radioshack, J&R and B&H Photo are all confirmed to carry it.
The Nexus 7 will launch next week, and will have three price points for the three available models. Th1 16GB model will retail at $229, the 32GB model will retail at $269, and the 32GB LTE model will retail at $349, and will be available in “the coming weeks”.
