HTC One Gets Official

Last week, we reported that the announcement of a brand new HTC flagship device was on the way. Well today we finally got that official announcement in the form of the HTC One. The HTC One goes straight for the jugular as far as raw specs are concerned, and I can’t wait to get my hands on one. For starters, the body is made from aluminum, and actually bears an eerie resemblance to the iPhone 5. The display is a 4.7 inch 1080p LCD HD display, that’s optically bonded and rocks an as of yet unheard of pixel density (468 ppi). Essentially the display is going to be twice as good as the iPhone retina display. The processor inside of this beast is a brand new quad core, 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 600 processor that’s going to eat any tasks you throw at it for lunch. HTC also promises that the HTC One will perform better than the One X and One X+ in the battery department largely due to a bigger 2300 mAh battery they stuffed inside. Finally, you get all of this goodness wrapped around Android 4.2.

The bulk of the hype around the HTC One lies within the new and improved camera system. The biggest trick here is that the pictures that you take on the phone itself won’t seem any better than what you’d see on most other smartphones. Instead, you would be able to print out the photos that you’ve taken from your phone at roughly four times the size and resolution that a standard smartphone camera would present. There’s also some neat features added in that would allow would be photographers to take stop-motion like pictures right from the phone, along with a brand new HDR video recording mode. Rounding out the features on the HTC One, is an IR-sensor at the top of the phone which will allow you to use your phone as a TV remote (ala Peel on the Galaxy Tab).

The HTC One will be hitting carriers relatively soon, starting at the end of March. Several carriers were listed in the announcement including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint in the US. Verizon was missing from that list which usually means they will score some sort of exclusive down the road.
