Nintendo finally debuted their long-awaited next-gen console today, and they’re calling it Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch has a really awesome design, and appears to be a hybrid between a home and portable gaming console. The premise is actually really simple and could potentially catapult Nintendo back into the top of the gaming scene. While at home, the Switch rests in a dock which connects directly to a TV for gameplay. When you’re ready to take the show on the road, you can simply detach the Switch from the dock and the system changes to portable mode.

The design of the Switch shows that Nintendo is surely moving into the next generation when it come to gaming. The controllers are called Joy-Con controllers and can essentially dissected a number of ways depending on the gaming scenario. There’s also a Pro Joy-Con controller that largely resembles the Pro Controller from the Wii and Wii-U consoles. The system itself is powered by NVIDIA technologies, and Nintendo is promising a better gaming experience this time around. The Switch benefits tremendously from being ultra-portable – and no one does portable gaming better than Nintendo. “Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Nintendo has also gone on record saying that they will have a substantial number of third-party games available on the Switch. Companies like Bethesda, 505 Games, Activision, Bandai Namco, and Telltale Games have all announced they’ll develop titles for the Switch. The only thing left to see now, are the actual technical specifications of the system to see how it stacks up against the PS4 and Xbox One. The Nintendo Switch will debut in March 2017, with a ton more hardware and software announcements prior to launch.
