Major Apple Patent Ruled Invalid
1 min readBy Rob Boggan
In what could be a majorly huge turn of events, one of the biggest patents that Apple claimed Samsung infringed upon has been ruled invalid by the US Patent Office. The patent (No. 7,469,381) cover the bounce back effect once you’ve reached the end of a scroll-able area. This patent in particular played a massive part in a California jury’s decision to rule Samsung guilty of 20 counts of infringement across multiple devices. The patent has essentially been found to be to vague and covers too broad of a spectrum to be considered valid based on this document.
So here we are, a full month later and Samsung may have an ace in their sleeve after all. This may be just enough to switch momentum back to Samsung, even though the invalid ruling is still in a tentative state. Only time will tell to who’s favor this will play, but one has to believe that if this one valid can be viewed as more paper thin than iron clad, how many more patents in Apple’s portfolio can be over turned as well?
