T-Mobile USA And Metro PCS Announce Merger

T-Mobile USA has announced today that their long rumored merger has officially been approved. This comes after weeks of speculation about which carrier would land the hot up and coming no contract provider. Sprint was rumored to be the number one suitor since both companies run similar technologies, but T-Mobile apparently out ran the nation’s number three carrier. Carrying a $1.5 billion price tag, this merger was less about being a bigger company and more about spectrum. Both carriers have announced that they will work together to build out a high speed 4G LTE network, and “Aggressively compete with other national US carriers.”
This move certainly gives T-Mobile a bigger advantage to compete, but it will remain the nation’s number four carrier behind Sprint. Metro PCS will maintain a 26 percent ownership in the venture while T-Mobile will maintain a majority stake in the company with 74 percent ownership. Although the companies are merged together, they will continue to operate as separate entities.
