PUBG Will Make It To The Playstation 4…Eventually
2 min readThe insanely popular shooter, Playerunknown’s Battleground absolutely crushed it in 2017. Surpassing what anybody ever thought it would do, the game smashed sales and player activity records weekly. It remains one of the most popular games to play despite it being exclusive to Xbox One X and PC.
The game is still a work in progress and essentially in early release stage. This is why it currently isn’t available on Playstation, and why it’ll be a while before it makes it to the console. During a recent interview with Inven Global, PUBG Corp. CEO Chang Han Kim expanded on why the game hasn’t hit Sony’s system yet. He explained ““Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox One are like pre-release, so they don’t have a restriction on quality,” he went on, ““However, PS is very strict about this. There were cases where a game took six months more to launch even when it was already completed. We are still in the stage of learning the console development environment and console gamers’ taste. We need to think about other platforms after evaluating and completing the Xbox One version first.”
While this prevents the game developer a tremendous advantage, it also presents a disadvantage. While there are still scores of players that will play the pre-release version, there is a potential for an even bigger audience on the Playstation side of things. Sony users will have to wait to get their hands on PUBG and by the time it’s finally available for them, there could be another franchise out to vulture their exposure. Either way, this still has to be exciting news for Playstation owners who were curious if they’d ever get to play PUBG. Now we at least know the answer to that question is not an if, but a when.
