Here’s The First Trailer For Season Two Of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale
2 min readHulu debuted the first trailer for the upcoming second season of their smash hit series, The Handmaid’s Tale today. The show dominated most conversations about the best TV show last year, and will return this April with an even more intense sophomore season. The Handmaid’s Tale is based on a dystopian novel written in 1985 by Margaret Atwood.
The story in both the book and the show centers around a fictional (but eerily similar) future where women have been stripped of all their rights. The main protagonist is a woman named Offred, and how she deals with this post-modern world. The show does an excellent job of detailing the cruelty and desperation these women faced in the new world of Gilead. Offred spends most of her time in captivity, the property of Commander Fred Waterford and his wife Serena. Fred takes a liking to Offred and of course this leads to tension between her and Serena.
Most of season one is spent introducing viewers to the characters and the rules within this new world. By the end, we’ve seen tons of conflict, new relationships forged, and an attempted escape into Canada (again, eerily familiar). The new season will kick off April 25th, with Offred now apparently held prisoner by the Government. In the trailer, it appears we’ll also get a look at society outside of Gilead and how it functions in the new world.
