Crunchyroll And Funimation Are Finally Merging

After months of waiting and stalled migration, Funimation and Crunchyroll are finally merging. In a short blog post, Funimation announced that they have begun the process of moving content onto the Crunchyroll streaming service. Anime fans have been waiting for the two libraries to merge since news first broke of Funimation’s acquisition of Crunchyroll last Summer.

This merger will make Crunchyroll the largest Anime streaming service by a country mile. Popular titles like Cowboy Bebop and Yu Yu Hakusho, previously exclusive to Funimation will begin to migrate over to Crunchyroll as a result of this move. In addition, all new debuting series will only be available through Crunchyroll, while Funimation will continue to air new episodes for existing series only.

Funimation hasn’t outright said it yet, but according to an excerpt from a FAQ posted on Funimation.com, current subscribers may definitely want to consider moving over to Crunchyroll. In fact, to incentivize subscribers to make the switch, Funimation will begin sending “eligible subscribers” an email voucher entitling them to 2 months of Crunchyroll for free. Of course, “eligible subscribers” mean those who aren’t already subscribed to Crunchyroll, and members who were subscribed to Funimation prior to 2/28/22.

While Funimation’s full library isn’t yet available on Crunchyroll, this is definitely welcome news and a step in the right direction. For more information, check out this handy FAQ posted to Funimation.
