You’ll Be Able To Play PS2 Games On Your Playstation 4 Soon
2 min readSony has confirmed that they are indeed working to bring Playstation 2 emulation to Playstation 4 consoles. This move would undoubtedly tip the scales massively into Sony’s favor, as the Playstation 2 has the best video game library of any gaming console ever. There are so many classic games and classic franchises that debuted with the PS2 that this would definitely shift the battle for gaming supremacy permanently into Sony’s court. The funny thing is, the Playstation 4 may already have this functionality, but Sony has said absolutely nothing about it. This feature was discovered by, and later reported on by WIRED who published a piece showcasing exactly how the feature works.
Wired first discovered this juicy morsel of information from the recently released Star Wars Battlefront video game. In the special edition bundle, there are three previously released Star Wars games that appear to be straight emulations instead of ports. They came to that conclusion based on the significant bump in resolution and processing power, along with the original PS2 logos present in the game. In addition to that, there’s also emulation coding for a PS2 memory card system and button mapping for the Dual Shock 4 controller.
I’m super pumped about this, and if Sony can pull this off they will have just single-handedly ended the next-gen console wars. Maybe I’m wrong, but I doubt it. Check out a video below on how the technology works, and let me know what you guys think in the comments below;
