Apple Drops The Price Of The HomePod To $299
1 min readShortly after announcing the rather disappointing death of the AirPower wireless charging mat, Apple is back at it with another round of device cuts. This time they aren’t completely abandoning a product though, but instead giving consumers a discount on it. Apple has announced they are dropping the price of the HomePod to $299 beginning today. Customers can find this new pricing in the Apple Store as well as the Apple E-Store.
This sudden discount may be less about the lack of sales around the HomePod, and more closely tied to a string of Apple’s retail partners cutting the price as well. It has been rather hard to determine the success (or lack thereof) of the HomePod though, as Apple doesn’t disclose actual sales numbers for it. They also face stiff competition from the likes of the Amazon Echo, and Google’s ‘Google Home’ smart speakers. Both of which are priced astronomically lower than the HomePod.
As of last year, there were rumors that Apple was thinking of introducing a lower cost version of the HomePod. There’s been no additional word on a cheaper model, but it is definitely a move that could help Apple gain ground on Amazon and Google. Between those two companies, they hold an insane 85% of the smart speaker market share.
Either way, $299 is still a pretty solid deal for the HomePod, and if you’re looking to snag one, now might be the best time to do so.
I may now cop one. Those prices be hitting tho. Whew!
Go ahead! They sound great!
