For the past few weeks, rumors about Google’s cloud storage alternative to DropBox and iCloud have been burning up the web. We can finally put all the rumors to rest thanks to a post from Google’s official blog detailing the upcoming cloud service. Essentially allowing users to store everything from photos, to documents, to videos and PDFs, Google Drive brings all your removable media together under one central location. Similar to iCloud, free Google Drive accounts will have access to 5GB of data, with additional storage space available for a price. Here’s where the Google Drive will distinguish themselves storage battle, as it’s paid plans offer extreme amounts of storage for a monthly charge instead of an annual fee. The plans are available as follows:

  1. 25GB of Cloud storage for $2.49/month
  2. 100GB of Cloud storage for $4.99/month
  3. 1TB of Cloud storage for $49.99/month
If a user upgrades to a paid Google Drive account, their Gmail storage will automatically be increased to 25GB at no additional charge.
To get started with Google Drive, you simply need to point your browser to the Google Drive main site and get signed up. To see what all the hoopla is about, check out the launch video by Google below, and be sure to hit us with your thoughts in the comments!
