Playstation 4 Officially Announced

Business just picked up a bit in the land of video game consoles. While Nintendo was the first out the gate with a “next gen” system, the console wars are officially about to start. Sony has announced the upcoming availability of its Playstation 4 gaming system and from the looks of it, it will be a beast. For starters, the PS4 will rock an astounding 8GB of RAM, an x86 processor, all powered with a Octo-Core processing unit. One of the more interesting features is the implementation of a suspend and resume system. The suspend and resume system will allow users to essentially jump in and out of games without lengthy wait times for the system to reboot.
There is also a tremendous focus on the connected experience, and that seems to be where the PS4 will really shine. Sony has added a chipset that allows users to continue uploads and downloads within the system even if it’s powered off. Thanks to enhanced video compression technology users will be able to upload video as they go, along with making video sharing easier than it has ever been before. One huge feature that I absolutely fell in love with was the fact that you can play games on your PS4 as you download them. This is accomplished thanks to the tech Sony acquired when they snatched up cloud gaming company Gaikai last year.
A returning favorite has also received a tremendous overhaul in the form of the revamped Dual Shock 4. As we reported last week, the Dual Shock 4 represents a giant change from where the Dual Shock has been, and I happen to be a big fan of it. For starters, there is now a touchpad front and center, which I’d assume is how you’d be able check the status of downloads when the system is powered off. There’s also a “share” button built onto the new Dual Shock controller which would control, wait for it…… content sharing.
One big bummer, was the revelation that the PS4 will not play PS3 games natively, but Sony is working to bring a solution to the system.

Any word on price point right off the bat?
Not yet. I would imagine they’re gonna save all that for E3 in May.
